I just started a few days ago, and I still can't decide if I enjoy his short stories because of the 'weird' factor (coincidentally also the name of Lovecraft's type of fiction) or because his style is just so unique. They're scary, or at least I think they're scary. I get scared easily, so that might not be a good case to judge by.
Let me explain. For my senior paper I am researching Poe's style and Lovecraft's, and then comparing the two. In the TCLC (Twentieth-Century Literary Criticism) I am getting so many mixed signals on Lovecraft. You're either really in love with his work, or you really despise it, apparently. I like it - it's fascinating. Is this just the vivid imagination of a mad genius or the nightmares of an insane man?
Questions, questions!
It's so cold in my room you wouldn't believe. I have a fleece blanket over myself and I am still shivering... or maybe it's the fact I've read so much Poe/Lovecraft lately. That's actually probably a major contributing factor!
Off topic, but my Gold Award project is not going well. It keeps hitting roadblock after roadblock, and most of them are totally out of control. The only good thing that the project has shown me is that I really do NOT like being in charge of projects, or committees, or anything, really. The feeling that others are depending on me to get something done is just not appealing.
That is why I'll never be a CEO. Oh well!
The fact that I have knit gloves with no fingers on and that my room is twenty degrees below zero makes me feel like a 'proper' writer, like I imagine one would be in the Victorian era in London. For some reason that image makes me happy and proud to want to be a writer.
Another, but the-last-off-topic topic, my grandmother is taking me down to the Gulf Shores this weekend for my graduation present! I'm very, very excited - I plan on taking a lot of pictures and relaxing on the beach while Kansas gets snowed on!
I've done a little research, and apparently you can go ballooning, and trail riding, and snorkeling, and feed alligators, and hike in a wildlife reserve, and ride a Ferris wheel at the wharf!
Aargh I am SO excited!!
